Southern Decorative Artists
Making the world a more beautiful place, one brush stroke at a time

Southern Decorative Artists (SDA) was formed by acrylic, watercolor, oil, colored pencil, and chalk enthusiasts for the following purposes:

  • To meet together for the recreation, pleasure and fellowship in painting

  • To assist one another in improving our painting ability

  • To provide for special instruction for members which will encourage and improve their abilities in tole and decorative painting

  • To share out talents with others through various community service activities.

The club meets at 10:00 AM the fourth Saturday of each month except for March, May, November and December.  In March we have our annual paint-in retreat.  In May we meet on the third Saturday.  In November we participate in Christmas Village at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center.  In December we have our annual Christmas luncheon.

Our meetings are held at the following location:

Bluff Park United Methodist Church
733 Valley Street
Hoover, Alabama 35226

Directions:  From I-65 exit at Alford Avenue (Exit 254).
Go west on Alford Avenue for approximately 2.5 miles to Valley Street.
Take a left onto Valley Street.
Go one block and turn left into the church's parking lot.

At our meetings members furnish snacks and drinks.  After the meeting, there is a painting class taught by one of our members.  Classes last approximately 2 to 3 hours.  It is a enjoyable time for all.  We also have painting classes with nationally known artists usually twice a year.  In addition, we hold a weekend painting retreat once a year and a mini paint-in once a year where members teach classes in a variety of mediums.

Non-members can attend one meeting annually as a guest.  Come and join us at one of our meetings.
